Welcome to Mongolia
Mongolia is truly one of the world's last undiscovered travel destinations and the safest country to visit. It is a land where you can experience wide-open spaces, cobalt blue skies, forests, deserts, crystal clear rivers and lakes, and the traditional hospitality of the nomads. Permanent dwellings are few and far between, fences even fewer and the land is owned by the people, like one large National Park.
Ulaanbaatar-UB
Sukhbaataar Talbai(Square) in UB
Sited in Mongolia’s mid-north, UB is home to about 1/3 of all Mongolians, and is a quirky, laid back city not without it’s charms. Unfortunately dominated by the massive Soviet built coal-fired power station, it nonetheless possesses a welter of internet cafes, bars, and some excellent museums and monasteries. It’s a good place to wander around before getting out into the majestic surroundings of the Terelj national park that surrounds the city.
Summer - Winter
summer & winter in UB
Home to just 750,000 Mongolians, the population swells during the frigid winter months – the city outskirts turning into a mass ger camp as nomads seek to get closer to the amenities of civilisation when the temperature drops below -30. Summertime however is sunny and hot, with big blue skies, and the milky way hanging just overhead at night. It’s light here until about 11pm – you’re technically in Siberia this far north, characterized by the presence of larch trees that skirt the cities main avenues. Even during Nadaam you should be able to find somewhere, although the inevitable price hikes occur during the festival period.
Some places you must see in UB
Gandantegchilen Monastery
Gandantegchilen Monastery is the only functioning monastery for Buddhists. It represents the past in terms of spirituality of the Mongols. This one-of-a-kind monastery is the home of the largest Buddha statue in all of Central and East Asia. It is called Megjid Janraisag, the Buddha of the Future. The rooftop of this monastery shows the artistic techniques that still show even after ages. This is but one of the monasteries that tells the story of the early settlers of the 17th century until now.
There was one time that this Manzushir Monastery had more than a thousand lamas and 70 temples. Sad to say, it was destroyed by the Communists back in 1932. Restoration of the remaining standing temple makes it a great tourist site. You can see actual photos and artifacts of the destroyed temples. You can also enjoy the beautiful landscape of flora and fauna that surrounds the premises of this historical monastery.
Gorkhi-Terelj National Park -- this protected area is the third largest in Mongolia, and, though it doesn’t hold the first title, it attracts the most number of tourists because of its natural setting and because it is located in the capital itself: Ulaanbaatar. Adventurers will surely enjoy being in this place since they can go horseback riding, rafting, skiing, hiking, mountain biking and camping.
"Chinggis khan statue complex" is located 54 km from Ulaanbaatar among beautiful natural scenery on the bank of river Tuul, in the place called “Tsonjin Boldog”, memorial place connected with historic events. It’s one of the biggest advantages of the project, if comparing the location of other historical sightseeing, places, located not less than 300 miles rough drive.
The statue in total is 40m high from surface erected at about 10 m high foundation and surrounded by columns. Far sighted Chinggis Khaan holds a golden whip in his right hand. Recreation area, restaurants and souvenir shops will be located in the column surrounded base of the Statue and from here visitors will ascend to the exhibition hall using elevator at the back of the horse. The visitors will walk to the head of the horse through chest and back neck of the horse, where they can have farseeing and good panorama view over the complex area.
The main area will be surrounded by “ger” camp, designed and arranged like the pattern of the horse seal that were used by the 13th century Mongol tribes. In these “ger” camps tourists can have a night out at this spot.
